The power of a personal testimony

I believe that followers of Jesus Christ should share their testimony with others, especially with people who are not believers. All of us  have some kind of conversion story. Some conversions may not be as dramatic as others, but every believer has a story to tell about how Jesus changed their lives.

There are many life changing testimonies out there from people who were saved by Jesus.  Many of them experienced a radical transformation of their live after meeting Jesus for the first time. That’s what happened to me.

You can read my personal testimony here: https://media4lifeministries.com/2011/11/14/my-personal-testimony-and-how-jesus-transformed-my-life/

Just like me, many born again believers came from a life of sex, drugs and Rock and Roll.

There are many unique stories told about people who lived a life of destruction,  a life after the flesh. The situation and circumstances may have been different,  but everybody agrees that it was Jesus that changed their lives. Jesus is the One that transforms a person’s life of spiritual blindness and death into a life after the spirit. How important and powerful are personal testimonies?

A personal testimony can be more effective and powerful than running around hitting people over the head with Bible verses, condemning them. There are lot’s of Bible – thumpers out there telling people that they go to hell because they are sinners. They have a holier than thou” attitude and in my opinion do more harm than good. If someone would have come to me in my drinking days and told me that I’m a sinner and that I would end up in hell, I would have told him or her to bugger off.

How can people who do not know Jesus personally know anything about what the word of God teaches? Pushing a Bible and Bible verses in their faces will only alienate most of them. In the end more harm was done than good. That’s why I believe that a personal testimony can be way more powerful than a condemning message to an unbeliever that has no clue about what sin really is or how God looks at the sin problem. Many times when I talk to unbelievers about God or the cross and what it means to be forgiven of their sins through Jesus Christ, they just brush it off as a fictional fairy tale. They come with typical arguments about why God does not exist and that believers in God are delusional.

I don’t want to make this a long story,  I believe that all of us believers should have a written testimony as a witness to the world. I have posted my testimony on many social websites and I have gotten many positive responses because people were able to relate to my story. I can tell about my conversion and transformation to people either face to face or by posting it online.

Who can argue against a personal testimony that has truly transformed and changed a person’s life? I had once an Atheist tell me that it was not God but rather my will power. I told him that I had tried many times to overcome things by my own will power and failed every time. It was only when I surrendered my life to the Lord that my life changed, not by will power but by His might.

I would like to give you one example from a response I received from a person in India and why I believe that a personal testimony is so important.

“…very inspiring testimony for youth and for drinkers, those who are investing money for their physical death and for spiritual death through drinking these people have to read this and I have been praying for them . I have shown your testimony to my father and he starts to cry because he is a drinker and he is suffering from heart problem already doctor’s advised to my father many times but he ignored always their advice, miracle after reading your testimony my father starts to pray the God and he said to me I want to baptize in the holly name of Jesus Christ, when I heard this words from my father I shocked and I realized God has no Partiality to save by his Grace through your testimony. And finally I never forgot you because your testimony changed my father by God’s grace I am very thankful to you…”

That brought tears to my eyes and this shows that people’s lives can be changed through personal testimonies. As I said in the beginning, we all have a different story to tell, but there are people out there that can relate to your story. I would like to encourage you to share your testimony with other, either on your blogs, Facebook and other social networks. A personal testimony is a powerful tool. Try it!

  1. Amazing testimony sister! My daughter was 15 and got pregnant, her mother and aunt took her and enforced an abortion on her, without my knowledge or consent. I know that ever since, this has been a stumbling block for her coming to God, so please pray for her, she’s called Lindsay.

  3. I wanted to leave a personal testimony incase some woman contemplating abortion stumbles upon it. I am a prolife advocate. I am fully against abortion of any form. However, when I became pregnant with my fourth child in an ungodly relationship, I though there was no other way. At the time, I worked for a local Hospice organization, and my health insurance paid for it. I contacted the local abortion clinic and made an appointment. Afterward, I contacted my insurance company and was given a ‘verification’ number. I immediately contacted the abortion agency and gave them the number. The woman on the phone was astounded. She said, “They gave that number to you?” I said, “Uh, yeah..why, is that bad?” Her tone changed to enthusiastic, “Oh no! That’s wonderful! It’s just that in all of my fifteen years here, I’ve never had the insurance company give that to the patient, and not so quickly either. This is wonderful because it’ll make everything go much more quickly!” We hung up.

That night, I went to bed. I prayed as I cried. “I’m sorry Lord, I know this is murder, but I see no other options. The father doesn’t want a child, and I can’t afford four children by myself. Please forgive me for what I am going to do.”

At that moment, and I’m not making this up, I felt a thud in my stomache, though I was only just pregnant. The thud, however, was spiritual, for the baby would’ve been microscopic at that point. Immediately following the thud, I heard a little girl’s voice within my mind. She said, “Mommy, please don’t let them take me from you! Please don’t have me killed! I love you mommy! Please, don’t do it!” The very young female child’s voice was tearfully pleading. This voice wasn’t audible on the outside, it was inside of my spirit. Between the thud (a reminder from the Holy Spirit this was a life inside of my womb; I’d already had three other children, so I knew what it felt like), and the voice of the little girl, I couldn’t do it.

The next morning, I called the clinic to cancel the appointment. Unbeknownst to me, the doctor was going to be the infamous abortionist, Dr. Haskell. The one famous for live birth and partial birth abortions.

Low and behold, I had a beautiful, sweet, and loving little girl; and she is so special it’s not funny. I’m glad I cancelled, and it’s been very difficult raising four children by myself, and it’s hard to always be the best mother when it’s so divided. But thank God I can honestly say I’m not guilty of murder. I knew a girl in school who was forced to have an abortion by her mother, and she slept with a baby doll every night as she tearfully wept. I’ve known people who have almost died from abortions, and people who have so much pain and regret. It’s not worth it.

Where do we have the right to choose life or death? Only God has that right. Oh how mankind slowly over a course of many years has tried so hard to become Him. Abortion is wicked, volatile, and corrupt, and I get so sick and tired of people trying to be politically correct by saying, “Oh, I don’t personally believe in abortion for myself, but if other people do it, it’s okay for them, just not for me.” That is ridiculous! If you feel it’s wrong for you, you feel it’s wrong for everyone else too. You’re just too afraid to offend. If I speak truth, and it offends, so be it. I do not care, personally. It is God whom I seek to please and delight in, not mankind; this world and those in it are not my God(s). In truth, if I speak honestly as God would have me, I hope it offends, because maybe then it’ll get under your skin enough that you’ll actually think about what it is you’re doing or saying. If by being offended, one lost soul finds their way to Christ, then amen!

What kind of a world have we become that we mutilate and destroy our defenseless, helpless young?

I urge anyone who reads this who either knows someone contemplating abortion, or is thinking about it for yourself, to think about what I’m saying here. The life inside of the womb becomes life at conception, and God breathed that life into your womb. God gave you a special gift, no matter how it got there. Even if a person is raped, I do not believe in abortion. The life inside is still a life, and it was not that life’s fault that it got there the way that it did. Being pregnant and giving birth won’t bring anymore undue emotional pain than what is already there. If you don’t want the child, there’s plenty of people out there who do. Put it up for adoption. I hear many Christians say, “Oh, I don’t believe in abortion unless the woman was raped.”

So sad. I hope maybe I’ve helped someone with my story here.

  4. Amen Cristal, our testimony is on-going, we are shinning lights in a dark world. Even-though we think sometimes that some people don’t want to hear about our faith or our lives as believers, they are watching us. They way we live our lives in this fallen world as followers of Jesus, is one of the greatest testimony anyone can give. May the Lord richly bless you. Stay strong, keep the faith and run the race.

  5. I always felt like I didn’t have a good testimony. I grew up not being “bad” and figured I’d never be able to lead anyone to Christ because I didn’t have one of those jaw-dropping stories of redemption. But, what I’ve found is that my on-going testimonies of God’s tremendous power in my life has been a huge witness. And I am so thankful!

  7. Freddy, It is a work of God for a total stranger who read your testimony to come to Christ. Your honesty and courage is highly regarded in your words. For me, I really don’t have a big testimony. Mine was a slow process but July 19 of this summer I will post a major turning point in my life.

  8. Look, I’m not gonna get into a long debate over this. I’m not admitting defeat. As you may know, I’m writing from a Christian perspective. I believe in the God of the Bible, the creator of the universe and all things in it, including you. There is only one God and all other god’s are man made. Religion is man made. The “only way” is through Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth and the life. I know you not gonna like me saying that, but there are no other ways to God. As I said I not gonna debate about creation verses evolution, God or no God on this post. I could say a lot about the things you belief, but I won’t. This post is to encourage fellow believers to share their testimonies. I wish you a good day.

  9. It’s a numbers game, then?

Unfortunately, you admit defeat in your response. My point was not that believing in Christianity didn’t change people. Just that it is not the only way, or demonstrably the best way. By saying that ‘for every one I’ll bring you 200’ means you acknowledge people don’t need your religion to change.

  10. I don’t believe in “religion” Neither was I inspired by any “religion.” If you read my testimony you know what happened to me. Now I don’t know what your belief is, so I’m making the assumption that you are not a follower of Jesus. Maybe you are leaning more towards atheism or human wisdom/philosophy? If the latter is the case, bring me one person that had a dramatic life changing transformation by either atheism or human philosophy and I will bring you 200 people that cant testify about how God changed their lives. I don’t want to get into a big argument with you over this, but I know hundreds of people that had life changing transformations in their lives and that not of themselves.

  11. “Who can argue against a personal testimony that has truly transformed and changed a person’s life?”

It depends on the specific testimony and what you are claiming.

Are you claiming that belief in your religion inspired you to change your life? Or are you claiming that you were visited by a deity that used its power to change your life?

The first is fine, though I see no reason why one religion is any better at this than any others, or other ways of thought that aren’t religious.

If the second, then that is certainly good enough evidence for you. But not for anyone else.
