Where does God dwell?

I was sitting at home on my patio this morning and enjoyed my first cup of  java.  I love that first cup in the morning.  I looked up at the trees and there were a bunch of birds singing, which made me think about God. His beautiful creation which  is revealed through the animal kingdom, the universe, nature and man. I see how wonderfully and marvelously He created everything.  The birds were singing a song early in the morning and I wondered, are they praising God, thanking Him for life and the provisions He gives them daily?

I live close to the Pacific Ocean and I can see wonderful sunsets and the waves with surfers riding them just about everyday. It’s just so beautiful to look at the blue water and the dolphins showing up from time to time,  pelicans flying by and just enjoying in general what God has blessed me with. We live on this blue planet called earth and considering how big the universe is and how far away the other solar systems are, made me think of the awesomeness of God. He spoke everything into existence, mind-blowing in itself. I don’t think we even can ever really comprehend how big the universe is and how small we really are.

Contemplating on all of that makes one wonder, where does God dwell or tabernacle? The scriptures tell us that God created all things and that He is outside of His creation. Time as we know it does not exist for God. He is eternal and always was and will be. He can see the end from the beginning, another mind blower. Where does He dwell? He created the space to put the universe in and made this planet we call home for us to dwell on. So, I’m sitting there pondering all those things and do I have an answer? No, I don’t. Is the heavenly realm another dimension another unseen parallel world, or maybe God has the whole universe in a glass bowl next to His throne?  What if the universe is so small that God holds it in the palm of His hand? Does the universe end somewhere and where did the space come from for the universe with all its galaxies to fit in?

I can not buy in to the theory that all we see was by accident about 4.3 billion years ago. Something so organized and beautiful as the universe can not just come out of an explosion. That is like taking a stick of dynamite and throwing it into a printing factory and out of the explosion come the Declaration of Independence.  Everything is just perfect and right for us here on earth to live on. God placed the earth in our solar system in such a way that there are no obstructions to look out into space. I think He did that on purpose: “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His handiwork.” Psalm 19:1.

As I said, I don’t know where God dwells and how that might look but I can’t wait to be there one day. That He promised us. “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:2, 3.

Today so many scientist still trying to figure out the universe and come up with all kinds of explanations of how it came into being and how we evolved from some kind of fish. Nothing but theories and no concrete and absolute answers. We made it to the moon and now we are trying to reach Mars. What are we gonna do on Mars? Open up a Walmart? Even if we would have people reaching mars and live on mars, that is nothing compared to how big this universe is and places that we will never reach. Now the scientist at Cern are trying to find the “God particle” at the Hadron collider in Geneva Switzerland.

Here is a small quote from their website: “The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is a gigantic scientific instrument near Geneva, where it spans the border between Switzerland and France about 100m underground. It is a particle accelerator used by physicists to study the smallest known particles – the fundamental building blocks of all things. It will revolutionize our understanding, from the minuscule world deep within atoms to the vastness of the Universe.”

It will revolutionize our understanding? I don’t think that we will ever understand the awesomeness of God. He said, “Let there be light” and it was. Finite man with finite minds trying to explain how the universe came into existence. I rather believe God’s word, “Light be.”

Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me. “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?” Job 38:3-5.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,” says the LORD. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8, 9.

  2. Sorry, I didn’t mean to be harsh to you. I understand and agree with what you are saying. I love God’s word and I believe in it and apply it to my life. I think we just have a slight misunderstanding here. I was just going all the way back in time before the creation. My pondering on this was not out of ignorance, I just phrased it as a question. The vastness of God the I Am before the foundation of the earth. Peace and Love, Freddy.

  3. I’m making no effort to be a disputer, but the concepts as laid out appear somewhat inconsistent in that they do not take into consideration a world of things. Sorry if the scriptures appear to irritate you it’s the source of my life and valued more necessary meat, my only point of reference for reality and meaning. I guess maybe I’m just not getting it. Because God breathed our of himself the breath that became man, living later in 98 cents worth of raw natural cosmic dust material; so that before man was out there, man was in God according to Moses, before the mountains were brought forth ( or the universe for that matter) even from everlasting to everlasting thou has been our dwelling place and we his dwelling place. Jesus lived in him, and he in Jesus and we in Christ are restored back into that union. It’s like you’re trying to contemplate God’s dwelling place, but man as that possibility is not to be considered because his earthy form is only several thousand years old, yet more than the flesh man’s spirit has its source of what God is which is eternal and so doesn’t have a beginning no more that Jesus had a beninning at his advent to earth. He was with the Father before he came to earth as Adam was with in the father before living in the flesh. A little patience perhaps with a helping of love maybe is required here eh?

  4. Thank you I know that Paul. “Christ in us , the hope of Glory.” Col 1:27. That was not my point and I had someone else make a long discussion out of a simple thought. God always existed, He has no beginning or end. Before God created the universe and everything in it, including man, He had a dwelling place. That’s all I was thinking about when I meditated on where He dwells.

  5. You are not getting it are you? Don’t you think I know those things that you quote from the Bible? I was just making a simple post about the dwelling place of God and you are trying to turn it into a theological discussion. I don’t need a Bible study or quotations because I had a simple thought.

We have already established and every believer knows that God is within us as and that He is omnipresent. Before God created the universe, before He created man, He existed. He always was. There was no heart of man before Adam and Eve. I was just in awe about God and where He dwells before the universe existed.

  6. I personally believe that there is a spirit “realm” (for lack of a better word, and I am not talking about the “spirit realm” as used by new age followers), where the Angels, those who died in Christ, and a facet of God dwell. There is evidence of this in the Bible (Luke 16: 19-31 is one example). But God is infinite, so He also dwells in every world that ever was or will be. We, as human’s are not capable of ever understanding the full extent of God. Our minds just will not allow it because we have to have something to compare it to, and there is nothing that can be compared to God. About the best we can do is like Paul said in Hebrews…. By Faith we understand that the worlds were made by Him (paraphrased). God Bless!!

  7. Being on the opposite ends of the country I am not as close to the beach as I would like, but get your drift. Often when I see the ocean it is as if God is somewhere out there in that infinite set of water but his heart is within me. My favorite place on earth is the beach. Great post.

  9. [I was pondering about the eternal estate of God not the heart of man nor His presence/kingdom here on the earth. Once a believer dies, he or she will be present with the Lord. That’s what I was contemplating, the day when we see God in the heavenly.]

So you’re pretty sure that these are mutually exclusive. Heaven doesn’t start in heaven after our flesh is dissolved in death. You don’t have to die, to be dead. We are dead in Christ already and by that have access to the power of the world to come, and are now living a resurrection life by faith which assumes a death that purchased this life for us. You can’t have resurrection life without the death that makes resurrection a requirement. Hebrews says you are not going to…. but you are come to city of the Living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, general assembly church of the first born—that are written in heaven, to God the judge, and Jesus mediator. Jesus is in us, it is no more we who are alive, but Jesus and he is eternal all the time, not just after we cross the vale of death. Not after we die, but we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.

  10. Thanks for your comment. I know that Jesus dwells in the heart of every true believer. “Christ in you, the hope of Glory.” Col 1:27. That was not the point of this post, I was pondering about the eternal estate of God not the heart of man nor His presence/kingdom here on the earth. Once a believer dies, he or she will be present with the Lord. That’s what I was contemplating, the day when we see God in the heavenly.

  11. A man’s house generally reflects his estate. According the form and state of God so is his house, only his house is not made with hands. The doors of such an abode being everlasting are a right fit for the stature of such a dwelling. The heavens, even the heavens of heavens cannot contain God, yet he says to man: (John 14: 23 Jesus said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.) The kingdom of God is within us. David says here God desires to dwell. God dwells in man. Jesus said the Father dwells in me, as I dwell in the Father; and they both dwell in us if we keep his work for in the beginning was the word who was God who now gives us power to keep his word so the fullness of the eternal godhead in him and he in God. We often speak of the God size void that is in man.

Well a “God size” dwelling for God would sound about right. Some people are ashamed to say where they live; God dwells in us and is not ashamed to publish it. Man little understands God, and deriving his meaning from God he little understands himself. In Christ he, a new creature has received power from God to even command fierce winds and the waves of tempest tossed storms as Jesus did and expected his disciples might have done; even Peter walked on water although that is a feat spoken of today as not just daunting, but flat out an impossibility. In his house are man mansions; 7 billion potential mansions right here on this planet.

Science in now saying their math is predicting countless universes like the pages of a book; well there are 7 billion pages on this planet. Each man is an everlasting door at the entrance to vast kingdom of God within him; a treasure in a field which a man goes and sells all that he has to obtain that field and the right to that treasure. God sets the worth of a man of the value of the live his laid down at Calvary to gain entrance that kingdom within man, and stands at that the everlasting door to the kingdom within man knocking and making request: lift up your head O ye gates, even lift them up ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory will come in…..the Lord strong and mighty…mighty in battle to deliver and strong to save.

Psalm 132:9 Let thy priests be clothed with righteousness; and let thy saints shout for joy. 10 For thy servant David’s sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. 11 The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne. 12 If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore. 13 For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation. 14 This is my rest for ever: HERE WILL I DWELL; FOR I HAVE DESIRED IT. 15 I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread. 16 I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy . 17 There will I make the horn of David to bud : I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed. 18 His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.
